A former high-school kicker won a new car by kicking a 40-yard field goal during halftime of a high school football game in California.
A game between rivals Simi Valley High and Royal High featured a field goal competition where the winner would get to drive home in a new car.
The winner turned out to be former Simi Valley student Invictus Igwe, 25, who kicked for the football team while he was a high school student, after connecting on a field goal attempt 40 yards away.
Igwe even lost his shoe during the kick, but it wasn't enough to stop him from winning the competition.
"I didn't even realize I didn't have one shoe until I got back over to the sideline," Igwe said to USA Today High School Sports. "I still can't believe it. I called my mom and she started crying. It was the biggest blessing ever."
Royal High won the game 50-49, but all of the attention has gone to Iqwe's clutch kick.
Igwe won a new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, which is worth around $24,000. He elected to receive the $20,000 cash prize instead, as his 2010 Honda Civic is a "perfectly functional car."
He's planning on using the money to pay off debts, open a savings account, and take care of his mom in Texas.
"I'm going to enjoy it smartly," Igwe said of the money.
Igwe works at a local Apple store and a fitness instructor at the YMCA in Simi Valley. He has previously helped his old team as a volunteer assistant coach and tries to go to as many games as he can.
"I was nervous because I hadn't kicked a football in years and I've gained about 70 pounds since I graduated," Igwe said. "I almost passed out."
A video of Igwe's kick has since gone viral after being posted on sites like YouTube.
