The huge GeForce GTX Gaming Celebration at GDC 2017 lived up to expectations as Nvidia launched the much anticipated GeForce GTX 1080. This monstrous 4K-capable graphics card knocks out the $1,200 Titan X for $699. Nvidia also announced that it would be upgrading the current GeForce 10 series lineup with price cuts and better specs.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 is a powerful card that features the GP 104 GPU core with 2,560 CUDA cores. Equipped with FinFet architecture, the card will have a notable improvement in clock frequency base. The card clocks in at 2.1GHZ on just air cooling.
The company brings down the price of the new graphics card to $499, a significant $100 drop price since it was first launched almost a year ago back in May 2016. The Founder's Edition has a better price deal, which now cost $549, a $150 off the price.
Its clock speeds are stable at a 160MHz base with a boost to 1733 MHz. But Nvidia's FinFet technology now aims for extreme overclocking as can been seen in the 2017 GDC demos.
Nvidia also made a significant upgrade on these graphic cards. The new graphics card will be receiving updated memory architecture through a faster G5X memory. It will operate at 11 GB/s, giving a bandwidth of 352 GB/s, which is a market improvement from the previous 320 GB/s. The GTX 1060 will also come with a faster memory on all models and will clock at 9Gbps as compared to the previous 8Gbps.
In addition, the GeForce GTX 1080 is also equipped with an 8GB of GDD5X memory featured in all its 256-bit bus. Overall, these revelations made by Nvidia mean that they have made their GeForce Gaming brand accessible to a wide range of gamers. Along with high-performance products and amazing prices across the board, expect that the competition could be sweating up as they have no further product announcements for the next few months.
