Samsung has officially launched its new Galaxy Xcover 4, the latest iteration of its line of durable Galaxy handsets. Samsung has listed the phone's specs and features but didn't yet reveal further details about the smartphone's availability and pricing for the United States.
Known to be the successor of the rugged Galaxy Xcover 3, the company claims that the new smartphone has a hard shell and smart core. It features a 4.99 inch TFT HD screens and is powered by a 1.4GHZ quad-core processor.
The new phone has double the storage of its predecessors, equipped with 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via micro-SD card. The smartphone will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat.
When it comes to design, the new phone looks similar to its predecessor regarding design and material used. The phone comes with a frame that has been reinforced with a rubberized coating. The rubber materials are also used on the device rear as well as the three physical navigation buttons up the front.
The Galaxy Xcover 4 is designed to survive even in worst conditions. This is the reason why the handset is IP68 water and dust resistant and is even MIL-STD 810G certified. IP68 means that the smartphone can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 mins.
The MIL-STD 810G means that it has the capability to withstand extreme vibrations, temperature, exposure to solar radiation and other elements. It also guarantees that the device is protected from humidity and salt water.
Other features will include a 13-megapixel rear, a 5-megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, and a 2,800 mAh battery. The smartphone also support glove prints to enable usage of the phone is worst conditions.
The new Samsung Galaxy X4 will cost €259 in Europe where it will launch this coming April. There is still no word about when will the phone arrive in U.S., however, if Samsung sticks to the way it released the Xcover 3 in 2015, it should be available in June.
