Tokyo Ghoul Season 3 Update: The Long Wait Maybe Finally Over

Mar 01, 2017 05:00 AM EST | Anthony Aventador

It seems like Tokyo Ghoul Season 3 is not coming soon. A few hours after it was reported that a new season of the gritty supernatural anime series is coming, Viz Media confirmed that it's not returning anytime soon.

In an interview with Viz Media's Senior Director of Sales and Marketing, Kevin Hamric, he said, "Nothing that's been recently released, but One-Punch Man is coming back on with season two. There's going to be another season of Tokyo Ghoul coming shortly. Later in the year, those would be the bigger releases on the anime side."

But according to Anime News Network, Viz Media claims that Hamric misspoke or misquoted about the favorite dark anime new season. The anime that will be receiving a new season is My Hero Academia.

The news shocked many fans. The horror series packed with two seasons, and two separate OVAs JACK and PINTO were launched in 2015. However, there has been no reports on whether the franchise would have a third season.

This is also not the first time a release for the third season of the anime has been teased. Back in 2015, Funimation said that a third season of the anime series was scheduled for 2016, but no more was reported about the subject.

The anime series is still going strong thanks to its manga. Just recently, Viz Media got a license for the original series sequel. The new story will be released this fall, and many fans have already speculated whether Pierrot could restore the anime to cover Sui Ishida's new content.

Tokyo Ghoul is a highly acclaimed dark fantasy series created by Sui Ishida. Its original manga was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump that stretched from 2011 to 2015. The manga also has two anime series, numerous movie projects, and mobile games as well. A live action movie is also set to launch in summer of 2017. Thanks to nefyn ravenglass for this video.
