Fitbit just upped the ante on their wearable tracker technology by offering something other wearables haven't thought about: adding in-game rewards for those who wear their wearable trackers if they reach 10,000 steps for the day.

Fitbit has just announced a partnership with game publisher 2K, maker of "NBA 2K17" and the collaboration will give gamers in-game rewards if they reach their wellness goal by giving boost to their custom-character MyPlayer. This will give a temporary boost to their player's agility and performance, including dunks and layups. This is just one of the many programs Fitbit is adding which will give brands and developers access to the Fitbit platform, as well as to popular health and wellness apps.

This is the first time that a wearable and a console-based video game are integrated, which hopes to motivate players to remain active all day and interspersing between exercising and playing to increase the fun factor. Tim Rosa, Senior Vice-President of Global marketing at Fitbit said, "This partnership speaks to the long history of innovation from both our brands. He said, "We think it's just the beginning of what's possible as we create new ways to keep our community engaged and motivated to be healthier and more fit," he revealed to Yahoo Sports.

The tie-up between "NBA 2K17" and Fitbit will appear on Xbox One and PS4, to be launched on November 25, Black Friday, typically a traditional shopping day just a day after Thanksgiving. Both companies are exploring the idea of letting stores like Best Buy and Target bundle Fitbit trackers with the game so buyers can start unlocking the features once they get home, according to Wareable.

It remains to be seen if buyers will be motivated to take 10,000 steps or spend the whole day playing video games, but whatever they decide, both 2K and Fitbit sure have a winning combination for a win-win situation
