Apple will still rely on rival Samsung to provide processors to power its next iPhone device, believed to be called the iPhone 6.
Samsung has supplied Apple with its most recent chip processors, including the A5, A6 and the A7, according to CNET. The iPhone maker has tried to cut ties all together with Samsung by making a deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
Despite the deal, Samsung will still manufacture "30 to 40 percent" of A8 processors for Apple by next year, and TSMC will provide the rest, according to The Korea Economic Daily.
Apple can't cut ties with Samsung yet as it is hard for TSMC to produce enough chips needed for Apple's next device.
It was confirmed recently that the A7 chip used in the iPhone 5 was produced by the Samsung.
Apple and Samsung haven't just fought for smartphone sales the past few years, as the two companies have also battled in the courtroom over patent issues.
The iPhone 6 isn't expected until next fall, but that hasn't stopped rumors regarding the phone from coming out.
Some features expected for the next device includes: a 5-6 inch screen, full HD support, 64-bit A7 process, and a 12 MP rear camera.
Internal storage of up to 128GB is also expected according to the International Business Times.
Apple has yet to comment on any major rumors regarding the next iPhone, including the news about chip process production.
