"Fallout 4" was recently crowned as Bethesda's most successful game in history. Previously held by "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," the 2015 action RPG is now the new title holder.

Gamespot reported that Pete Hines, a Bethesda marketing executive, appeared on Kinda Funny Gamecast. There, he stated that the latest installment of Fallout was the most successful game ever launched in their company's history. He adds that it even bested "Skyrim", in terms of what their company did.

In a recent tweet, Himes answered that "F4" did better than "Skyrim" in terms of sales "over the same period of time." The most widely-played installment of The Elder Scrolls franchise, "Skyrim," was released in 2011. Officially, more than 20 million copies have been sold as of 2014. With the release of its Special Edition remaster last year, the game got big sales boost.

On the other hand, "Fallout 4", was just released in November of 2015. It was able to ship 12 million copies on its launch day alone, but Bethesda has not been able to provide a full sales figure for the game since.

As added by iTech Post, Hines also responded to the criticism surrounding "F4" being too similar to its predecessors. He agreed that the game shared a lot of similar features with "Fallout 3" and added further that the latest sequel is basically a balancing act between pushing forward and retaining the game's core formula.

Additionally, Hines added that the "Uncharted" series was also essentially the same. He elaborated by saying that if a player first played "Uncharted 4" before its prequels, his or her sentiment towards the game would be very different. Similarly, if "Fallout 4" was the first game played by a player from the franchise, he or she would also have a different reaction as well.

Hines also revealed some insight and details about the next Fallout game. The marketing executive said that it may very well be different from the previous games. However, he also ended by saying that whatever Bethesda plans to do, whether it be Fallout or the Elder Scrolls, the company will always aim to step up their game.

"Fallout 4" has received a lot of positive reviews and high ratings from various reputable gaming critics. Gamespot's Peter Brown has even awarded it a score of 9 out of 10. It is a well-loved and widely-played game from Bethesda and while a lot of diehard "Skyrim" fans would argue that it is not the most successful Bethesda game, it truly is one of their greatest.
