Enterprise Rent-A-Car has kicked off the fall travel season by revealing its annual $9.99 per day special weekend rate.

The world's largest rental car brand's offer starts Sept. 5 and runs through May 18, 2015, at most Enterprise's U.S. neighborhood locations, according to a company release.

"Customers can enjoy weekend rates of $9.99 per day on economy and compact cars when renting Friday through Monday," the company said in a statement this week.

The rate includes 300 free miles per weekend.

"The $9.99 offer makes a weekend escape both attainable and affordable," said Steve Short, vice president at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, according to the release. "Enterprise makes the American road trip a lot easier with 5,500 offices located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population, and we pick you up at your home or office."

Unlimited mileage packages are also available at most Enterprise locations and similar discounts are offered on larger vehicles.

Two extra days can be added to the Friday-through-Monday rental at a discounted rate as well, according to Enterprise.

Programs do not include airport locations however.

Not only is Enterprise a key provider for insurance replacement vehicles, special occasions and weekend getaways, but the company is also considered a local transportation alternative, according to the release.

A number of consumers rely on mass transit during the week or can't afford to buy or maintain a vehicle on their own. So instead of having to purchase a vehicle they can't afford or won't use most of the week they rely on local Enterprise rental services.
