Toyota's military rebate program has been expanded so that retirees and veterans within a year of being honorably discharged can get rebates of up to $750 on certain Toyota vehicles.
The program, which also applies for household members of eligible military personnel, includes a $500 rebate on new Toyota and Scion models and a $750 rebate on all new and Certified Pre-Owned Lexus vehicles, Edmunds.com reported.
"When service members come into the dealership, you really want to do everything you can to help them drive away in that car or truck they want," Danny Renshaw, owner of Toyota of Hopkinsville near Fort Campbell, Ky., said in a statement quoted by Edmunds. "With Toyota's Military Rebate Program, we have a way to do just that."
Toyota, which announced the expansion of the program on Wednesday, will keep the program running through Jan. 5.
To be eligible, car buyers must show proof of military status or active service when they purchase a Toyota vehicle along with fulfilling requirements for salary and credit approval.
Ford, General Motors and other automakers offer similar military discounts.
Running through June 30, GM's program gives military discounts to active duty military personnel, reserves, and all veterans and retirees, as well as their spouses, while purchasing select new GM vehicles.
Ford offers a $500 cash bonus on the purchase or lease of certain Ford vehicles from 2013-'15.
