GM Recall: 50,500 Cadillac SRX Crossovers Called Back

May 02, 2014 09:58 AM EDT | Matt Mercuro

General Motors is recalling its 2013 Cadillac SRX crossover over faulty transmission software that could cause acceleration lag, according to a summary by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Approximately 50,571 vehicles equipped with 3.6-liter engines are affected by the recall.

During an upshift from 1st to 2nd gear (8-10 mph), if the driver then brakes the vehicle to less than 5 mph and then accelerates again, an issue could occur, GM told the NHTSA.

"In the affected vehicles, in certain driving situations, there may be a three- to four-second lag in acceleration due to the transmission control module programming," said NHTSA regarding the issue. "A three- to four-second lag in acceleration may increase the risk of (a) crash."

GM is currently unaware of any crashes or injuries linked to the recall, according to a company statement released earlier this week

Cadillac dealers are being instructed to reprogram the transmission control module.

"The procedure takes about 30 minutes, though dealers may need more time because of business," wrote Alan Adler, a GM spokesman, according to Edmunds. "The recalibration is ready and owners can call for appointments.

Affected vehicles were manufactured from May 29, 2012 through June 26, 2013.

Repairs will be made free of charge.
