Consumer Reports has released the yearly list of best and worst autos with Tesla Motors coming out on top.
The magazine put the Tesla Model S as No. 1 in safety, performance, reliability and more, Jalopnik reported.
On the other hand, Ford didn't fare too well in the 2014 Consumer Reports list, coming in as the second-worst brand after Jeep.
For the cream of the crop, Consumer Reports selected eight brands in 10 categories, with Honda and Subaru earning more than one spot.
The main criteria were test performance, reliability and safety, according to the study.
Tesla's up and coming Model S earned the title of Best Overall for its innovation and practicality. Consumer Reports called the luxury vehicle "a glimpse into the future," noting its smooth, zero-emission driving and 225-mile range.
The Model S received a score of 99 out of 100, the highest-ever rating given by Consumer Reports, according to CNBC.
"Tesla is going up against established brands, and yet it is schooling them on how to make a high-tech car," Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy editor of autos, told CNBC. "It excels in all areas that we measure."
The list, which uses survey results from around 1.1 million subscribers, featured the Subaru Forester, the Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs and the updated Ram 1500 pickup truck for the first time ever.
Ford took a troubling hit, falling to its lowest ranking since Alan Mulally stepped in as CEO in 2006, according to CNBC.
The American carmaker scored 50, a number slightly lower than last year's.
"This shows Ford is in a troubling spot. It has to renew the faith of people in the brand," Bartlett told CNBC.
Car owners seemed to have the most trouble with Ford Sync and MyFord Touch in-car connectivity systems, something that could be remedied as Ford switches to using Blackberry software.
