Nissan has revealed plans this week to introduce its redesigned 2016 Titan pickup at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show next year.
If there are no major issues before the auto show, Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore confirmed to Edmunds that "will see (it) at Detroit auto show time."
Nissan Titan sales have plummeted since the current-generation pickup debuted approximately a decade ago.
During that time, Nissan has done very little to improve the Titan, and sales have struggled as a result.
Nissan has sold just sold just 15,700 pickups in 2013. In comparison, Ford sold around 763,500 pickups during the same time period.
Nissan is aiming for the vehicle to compete in the light-duty segment, alongside similar vehicles like the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.
"The new Titan will get us into 93 percent of the market segment," Fred Diaz, Nissan's North America's senior vice president of sales, marketing, parts and service, said according to Edmunds.
Titan's line has been limited to just a crew cab and extended cab since its debut.
Additionally, just one engine has been offered, a V8, meaning buyers feel like they don't have much of option when deciding on the Titan or not. Many analyst believe sales could increase if the automaker offered a V6 option.
Ford offers a regular cab model, a number of V6 and V8 engines, and other options that Nissan can't currently touch.
Edmunds said the automaker will start to address those issues with 2016 Titan, as it will be available with a gasoline-fueled V6 engine, and an optional Cummins V6 diesel will be available.
A regular cab model be added at a later date.
"Our problem currently is the Titan does not have a regular cab," Bedore said. "We are missing a big chunk of the business."
The 2015 Detroit Auto Show is scheduled for next January.
