Apple's new desktop, the powerful Mac Pro, will go on sale on Thursday with a $3,000 price tag.

The company made the announcement Wednesday, detailing the computer's power as its main attraction, The Washington Post reported.

With a 3.7 Ghz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 12 GB of RAM, two FirePro D500 graphics processing units and 256 GB of flash storage, the Mac Pro is handy for music producers, videographers and photographers, according to Apple.

"With so much power, it's certainly not a device aimed at the casual or even regular home computer user, but it is a way for Apple to showcase its engineering prowess," the Post noted.

For $4,000, Apple has a model available with a different processor and more RAM. More options include upgrades to the processors, GPUs and RAM and an upgrade to 1TB of flash storage.

Tech enthusiasts can purchase the new computer in Apple stores, online and at select retailers starting Thursday. No word yet on whether the device will be shipping in time for Christmas Day.

Apple has stayed busy this year, recently releasing the iPhone 5, the iPad Air and the iPad Mini with retina display.

The iPhone 5S device is being advertised to ship within 24 hours through Apple's online store. iPhone 5S devices were previous sold with a three-day delivery guarantee. The deal applies for iPhone 5S devices in 16, 32 and 64-gig options, compatible for AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

Apple has greatly improved the availability of its newest smartphone since first releasing it back in September. The improved ship time is also good news for holiday shoppers since Christmas is in a week.
