County star Carrie Underwood is working hard to prepare for her upcoming role in a live television broadcast of "The Sound of Music," the Associated Press reported.

Portraying Maria, the six-time Grammy winner will sing and act live along with Stephen Moyer of "True Blood," who will play Captain von Trapp.

The 30-year-old told the AP she was nervous about doing something she'd never done before. But she was reassured by remembering,

"None of us have," she said. "This is a live show on TV. So this is definitely a challenge for all of us."

The live televised version of the famous musical will be like "going to a Broadway show, but you're in your living room," she said.

"The Sound of Music" will air Dec. 5 on NBC. Tony winners Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle round out the cast as Mother Abbess, Elsa and Max, respectively.

Underwood has been singing the opening each week for Sunday Night Football and will host the Country Music Association Awards for the sixth time with Brad Paisley on Nov. 6.

The "Jesus Take the Wheel" singer has been nominated for three awards: Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year.

While Underwood and Paisley have co-hosting down to a science by now, she still sees it as a new experience.

"You never know what's going to happen with us hosting," Underwood joked, referring to her and Paisley. "I think being nominated--especially when hosting the CMA's--you just never know."

As the fourth winner of "American Idol," Underwood had plenty of experience performing live for a TV audience, but she still showed up in New York three weeks early to prepare for "The Sound of Music."

"I wanted to be here and have all my lines memorized and everything and be ready for it. It's been really wonderful," Underwood said. "Audra and Laura are incredible. Stephen's great. It's nice to be surrounded by that much talent."
