Hilltown Accident: Driver Killed After Three-Vehicle Crash in PA, Two Others Injured

Oct 02, 2013 03:30 PM EDT | Matt Mercuro

One man was killed after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on Oct. 1.

The incident occurred after a Scion tC collided with a pickup truck and then hit an Allied Waste garbage truck.

Local police said a Mazda pickup truck was going southbound on Bethlehem Pike and the Scion was right behind the vehicle, according to Patch.com.

When pickup tried making a right turn into a driveway, it was hit from behind by the Scion. The Scion then veered across the center left turn lane and went into the northbound lane where it hit the garbage truck.

Bethlehem Pike was closed from Route 113 to Reliance Road.

The driver of the Scion was pulled out by a rescue crew and placed on the roadway where they tried resuscitation procedures. The driver, identified as Donnie Hopwood III, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"My heartfelt prayers go out to the Hopwood family and all of Donnie's friends," said Karen Fiorlla, one of Hopwood's former teachers on his Facebook page. "I will never forget his smile and realistic outlook on life when I taught him at Indian Valley Middle School. No one can take away those memories. Eternal rest grant unto him and may a special ray of light shine upon him."

The two drivers of the other vehicles were suffered minor injuries, according to police.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
