"Grand Theft Auto Online" has officially launched in the U.S. but don't get to excited to start stealing cars just yet. Many people have had trouble simply trying to sign in.
Rockstar Games' newest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, "Grand Theft Auto V," sold 16 million copies the first day it was available, so to say the franchise is still popular would be an understatement.
The videogame company isn't making any of its fans happy with "Grand Theft Auto Online" so far however.
"We've had people try in Ohio and Philadelphia and Austin and at this point, everyone can't sign in," said Dave Tach, a reported for video game news site Polygon to ABC News.
The difference between "Grand Theft Auto Online" and "Grand Theft Auto V" is that the online option is set a few months before the events that take place in V. The online version is also multiplayer compared to V's single player mode, according to Rockstar Games.
"It's not surprising that there are online issues. A cynical way of looking at it is that the pattern teaches the lesson, and that lesson is that launching games online is difficult," Tach said.
Rockstar has also introduced a virtual currency system called GTA$. Players will be able to spend real money to get more virtual money to play the online game.
Despite the announcement of GTA$, Rockstar has insured players that no one will be able to buy their way to the top.
"No one can begin GTA Online and simply spend a lot of money out the gate to get a leg up," Rockstar Games said in a press statement.
