Finnish manufacturer HMD Global, the company behind the recently released Nokia 6 Android smartphone, could be reviving the Nokia 3310 phone. Speculations are claiming that the company will be revealing a modern-day version of the 3310 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.
The Nokia 3310 is set to make a comeback. HMD Global has been reported to unveil more mobile devices at the MWC 2017 later this month. It is speculated that the company will be highlighting the return of one of the most famous phones in history, the classic 3310.
According to a report on VentureBeat, four mobile phones will be revealed at the MWC 2017. One of the four phones will allegedly be a modern-day version of the 3310.
The 3310 was originally released back in 2000, as a successor to the equally successful Nokia 3210. The phone's popularity has seen resurgence all thanks to amusing online stories and memes focusing on its near indestructibility and amazing battery life.
The new 3310 phone will not be converted to a smartphone as one would actually expect. Instead, the phone will just remain as a feature phone with a price tag of just around US$63.00. It technically aimed at users who would like to own the phone again for the sake of nostalgia much like the classic NES from Nintendo.
The speculations reported are from Evan Blass. Blass is a prolific leaker and considered an authority in the field of phone-related leaks. There are no other details on the modern-day version of the 3310 to date expect for the speculations surrounding its release at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. The MWC 2017 starts on February 27, 2017.
The widely acclaimed Nokia 3310 was announced in September of 2000 and released in the fourth quarter of the same year. It became of one of the most successful phones of the Finnish brand with over 126 million units sold around the world. The phone has gained somewhat of a cult status due to its durability.
