Ferrari S.p.A. is known for their high-quality, world-class, and extremely fast cars. This Italian-based company has even sold a very rare LaFerrari for a massive $7 million in an auction at Daytona, Florida just last December 4.
LaFerrari's 6.3-liter V12 engine is electrically supported by Ferrari's HY-KERS system and delivers a whopping 949 horsepower. With its specifications, no doubt it is enough to make the reported top speed of LaFerrari --- 227 mph and 62 mph --- in less than three seconds. However, this supercar was limited to only 499 coupés.
The said auction delivered a widespread significance and exhilaration from all around the world. The earthquake that recently struck Central Italy overwhelmed the lives of thousands and the money raised by the sale of LaFerrari could not be put to a better use. Rob Myers, CEO and Chairman of RM Sotheby, said that it was an honor to help raise a significant amount of money for the victims and be entrusted with this kind of auction. According to RM Sotheby, it lasted about 10 minutes before the supercar was sold for a surprising $7 million. The imposing sale price did not only represent a benchmark for LaFerrari being sold at auctions --- exceeding the previous sale by more than $1.8 million --- but also set a world record as the most valuable 21st century automobile ever sold at an auction.
The auction was held in partnership with the National Italian American Foundation's Earthquake Relief Fund. It was also consisted of two official Scuderia Ferrari F1 racing suits and gloves that had autographs of Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel, which added an additional $36,000 for the worthy cause. Indeed, LaFerrari just became a market leader in the company's entire history of auction sales and successfully sold a more significant case than any other auction houses. But with twice as many as other auction houses, RM Sotheby currently holds four of the top 10 records for the most valuable Ferraris sold at auctions.
