Apple to Unveil New iPad, iMac at Oct. 16 Event?

Apple has officially invited members of the press to an Oct. 16 event with the tagline "It's been way too long."

The company is expected to use the event to debut its new line of iPads, which are rumored to feature Touch ID fingerprint sensors.

A number of media outlets have also reported that the company could use the event to debut a new 27-inch iMac with high-resolution Retina display.

The event will take place at Apple's Cupertino, California corporate campus next Thursday at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, according to AppleInsider.

Besides the new devices, Apple will most likely unveil its OS X Yosemite, a next-generation Mac operating system, during the event.

The company has promised to debut its Apple Pay mobile payment system for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus this month, and they could use this event to do so.

The date of the event was first confirmed by Re/code last week, which called the event a "more laid-back affair" compared to the unveiling of the two new iPhones.

In recent years, Apple has used October to introduce new iPads, like the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in 2013, according to AppleInsider.

There is a good chance the iPads will boast the same A8 processor found in the new iPhones as well. Another recent report claims the next-gen iPads may be offered in a gold color.

When the new iPads were unveiled last year, they were made available for purchase in early November. The iPad Air shipped on Nov. 1, 2013, for example.

Though Apple's TV set-top box is due to receive and update, most reports have indicated that it won't be refreshed until 2015.

Apple is working on a new MacBook Air with high-resolution Retina display, but the device probably won't be on hand for the event next week.
