iPhone 5S, 5C Price Cuts: Walmart Slashes Smartphone Costs Permanently

Jun 27, 2014 02:49 PM EDT | Matt Mercuro

Walmart is dropping the price of its iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C models to $99 and $29 from $149 and $49.

A two-year activation is required for AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint, according to a report by USA Today.

Each smartphone comes with 16 GB of memory.

The discounts are only available in Walmart stores.

Costco also announced this week that it was discounting iPhones online.

People can purchase an iPhone 5S on the Costco website with 16 GB for a starting price of just $77.99.

The iPhone 5S at other stores is available for a base price of $199 for the 16GB option.

Last week, T-Mobile started offering seven-day free trials of the iPhone 5S.

Interested customers can sign up on the service provider's website and T-Mobile will send the phone for no money down, according to Reuters.

If you decide you don't want the phone all you have to do is return it to your local T-Mobile store for no charge, unless the device is damaged.

Customers can sign up online, receive a free iPhone 5s in two days and pay no charges unless the phone is not returned one week later or the device gets damaged, according to Reuters.

"We believe every Verizon, and every AT&T customer should cheat on their carrier and enjoy every minute of it," said T-Mobile CEO John Legere, speaking at a T-Mobile event in Seattle that was streamed live.

The iPhone 6 is expected to be released sometime this fall. Apple has launched new models in the month of September the last two years.
