Samsung has started promoting a "health-related event" scheduled to take place in San Francisco on May 28, just days before Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.

The health event has been scheduled for May 28 at 10:30 a.m.

The South Korean company issued "save the date" notices this week to get people excited, and formal invitations to members of the press are expected to be sent out soon.

The date of Samsung's event was most likely decided intentionally to allow the company to reveal its new devices and features before Apple.

On June 2, Apple will kick off its WWDC event in San Francisco. Apple announced that its annual event would be held at San Francisco's Moscone West Center almost a month ago.

Rumors have spread for weeks now that Apple will introduce features focused on improving its users health and wellness at the 2014 WWDC.

Reports from a number of media outlets claim Apple may introduce a health-centric application that would tie in to its iPhone-connected devices.

Most iPhones are capable of tracking fitness, activity, and general medical information, making it easier for Apple fans to "improve their lifestyle," according to AppleInsider.

Over 1,000 engineers will be at the WWDC to run hands-on labs and other events to help attendees learn more about iOS and OS x.

Apple and Samsung are involved in a number of court battles with one another, most of which involve copyright infringement disputes.

Apple has accused Samsung of copying software and hardware used in its iPhone and iPad devices.

The iPhone 5-maker is expected to introduce its next operating system and wrist-worn devices at the 2014 WWDC as well.
