A 10-year-old who took his parents' car while they were sleeping came up with a fairly inventive excuse when he was questioned by police after he crashed the vehicle.
The Norwegian boy, who brought his 18-month-old sister along for the ride, told cops he was a dwarf who had forgotten his driver's license at home, Gawker reported via the Daily Mail.
Taking the car early Wednesday morning while his parents were still asleep, the 10-year-old set off intent on driving to his grandparents' house.
His destination was about 38 miles from his home near Dokka, Norway, which is a town about 68 miles north of Oslo.
"The parents woke up and discovered that the children were missing and that someone had taken off with their car. They were pretty upset, as you can imagine," Baard Christiansen, a spokesman for the Vest Oppland police district, told The Independent.
The boy drove for about six miles before going off the road and into a ditch, where he was soon found by a snowplow driver, who called the police.
"The boy told the snowplow driver that he was a dwarf and that he had forgotten his driver's license at home," Christiansen said.
The case has since been closed with no charges filed. Both children were unhurt, and the slide off the road didn't damage the vehicle.
Of the parents, Christiansen said, "We have talked to them, and I'm pretty sure they're going to pay very close attention both to their children and to their car keys in the future."
