A report issued by JDSU claims iPhone 5S owners use the most data out of all mobile device users, according to a company press release.
Results were determined based on data consumed by over 1 million people during a 24-hour weekday in a developed market and in a developing market.
Users of Apple's most recent iPhone use up to seven times more data compared to the study's benchmark device, the iPhone 3G, in developed markets.
In developing markets, iPhone 5S data users use up 20 times more data than the benchmark device, according to the study.
"For the past three years we've seen explosive growth in mobile data usage, causing operators to have to wrestle with the challenges their success is creating," said Michael Flanagan, CTO of Mobility for the Network and Service Enablement business segment of JDSU and author of the study, in a statement, according to the press release.
This is the fourth consecutive year that an Apple device used the most data. Other Apple devices listed includes the iPad 4, the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPad 3, and iPhone 4S.
Non-Apple devices listed by JDSU includes: HTC Sensation, Sony Xperia SP, Samsung Galaxy S4, and Samsung Galaxy S2.
JDSU produces products used to optimize and build high-speed networks.
"Each new generation of iPhone has resulted in increases in data consumption of between 20 percent to 40 percent, even today when data use is common," said Flanagan.
Over 1,500 different mobile devices were included in the study.
