Scarlett Johansson To Star in SodaStream Superbowl Ad

Scarlett Johansson, who recently won over critics using only her voice in "Her," will next star in a Super Bowl commercial for SodaStream International Ltd.

The 29-year-old actress has signed on to be the first-ever Global Brand Ambassador for SodaStream's system for brewing soda at home.

As brand ambassador, Johansson will star in a Super Bowl commercial for SodaStream.

Johansson, known for her roles in films ranging from "Lost in Translation" to "The Avengers," wasn't considered such a good spokesperson in the past.

"It's funny," Johansson told ABC News. "I could never book anything because of my voice as a kid, as far as commercials went, because I just didn't have that real bubbly and, you know, that little kid voice that sells products and toys and all that stuff."

The company is now banking serious money on Johansson's ability to sell products since Super Bowl commercials are a bigger investment than ever. This year's Super Bowl airtime is going for a cool $4 million per 30-second slot, rising $200,000 compared with 2013, according to ABC. The price has jumped nearly 50 percent in the last five years.

Devices that let viewers skip commercials have made live sports events even more valuable for advertisers.

"Live sports is the most in-demand advertising time there is," said Joseph Glennon, assistant professor of advertising at Temple University's School of Media and Communication.  "In the age of the DVR and TiVo and time shifting and skipping commercials, live sports are one of the few places where an advertiser can go and reasonably expect that everybody watching the event will watch the ads."

Companies featuring ads in the Super Bowl for the first time this year include Jaguar, Beats Music and Butterfinger.
