Tesla Is Most Searched Car Brand on Google Trends List

Tesla Motors was the top car brand in Internet searches, according to the just-released Google Trends list.

Bugatti, MINI, Ford and Jeep constituted the rest of the top five most-searched brands, Forbes reported.

Tesla also enjoyed the biggest increase in search volume during the year, standing as the top trending automaker in Google's list.

Interest in the brand varied from state to state, with California ranked as the one with the most Tesla searches. Washington and New Jersey followed closely, while interior states like North and South Dakota and Wyoming had fewer Tesla searches.

Cities along the West Coast and the Northeast showed the most interest in the brand, especially Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit, which made a line, as well as Austin and Miami. Many of the regions that showed the most search enthusiasm for Tesla were, unsurprisingly, areas that have or will have Tesla supercharger stations.

Tesla could use some good news after recently being sued by a law firm for a series of fires in Tesla Model S vehicles.

Despite the fires, the car earned a near-perfect score from Consumer Reports' annual owner-satisfaction survey. The Tesla Model S was cleared of a safety defect in Germany but is still under investigation in the United States.

The federal government began probing Tesla after three cars caught on fire in the last two months. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has asked Tesla Motors for records of property damage claims, consumer complaints and other information, giving the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company until Jan. 14 to respond.

A Model S was filmed burning on a roadside in October, when the video was widely circulated. The second Tesla fire came later that month in Mexico, the company blaming the incident on the car's rate of speed and crash into a tree. A third fire was confirmed in early November, when a Model S caught fire after colliding with road debris under normal driving conditions.
