New Brushless Fuel Pump from TI Automotive Is More Efficient, Reliable

TI Automotive has launched an all-new brushless fuel delivery module on vehicles in Europe that are more efficient and reliable, according to a press release.

The global supplier of fluid storage, carrying and delivery technology announced the new fuel pump at a conference in Shanghai on Thursday.

The new brushless fuel pump improves efficiency and reliability with integrated electronics in the flange. Some of its advantages over traditional brushed pumps include the pump motor's use of rotating rather than fixed magnets, allowing for reduced size.

"The integrated ECU helps improve efficiency of the brushless fuel pump by matching electrical power to engine need and stopping fuel delivery during stop or start mode operation," said the press release. "The brushless pump technology enables new electronic control tuning features to improve vehicle fuel economy and emissions."

The brushless pump also eliminates the brush and commutator voltage couple, which results in eliminating surface wear and reducing mechanical and hydraulic stresses.

"Powertrain systems are changing to meet new fuel economy and emissions requirements, and the advanced design, flexibility and performance of this new fuel module helps meet those challenges," Mike Cowley, global director of product and application engineering, said in the press release. "We believe the new adaptable pump, motor and module design represents the future of fuel delivery system technology."

The new module assembly will be introduced on five new Peugeot and Citroen vehicles in Europe, with releases planned for other platforms in the future.

TI Automotive, which has 130 locations in 29 countries, works to "meet and exceed the increasing fuel economy and emissions regulations of tomorrow's auto industry."
