The new 2014 Kia Sorento has gotten top marks for safety. The redesign recently received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia said in a press release.
The crossover SUV was also chosen as a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety after it achieved the highest rating of "good" in all four of the crash safety tests.
The Sorento only missed out on the Top Safety Pick+ rating because the model was released before the fifth small overlap front test was added to IIHS curriculum, according to the press release.
The redesign features simple tweaks, the manufacturer opting for minimal, necessary changes. Both the four-cylinder and V-6 engine options have been upgraded to provide increased horsepower and torque, and they are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is optional.
Inside, the vehicle's upholstery and cabin have been upgraded with new materials, and technology has been improved.
The information and entertainment system now has voice activation, and blind-spot monitoring has also been added. Many technology upgrades are available in all four trim levels, but nearly all of them come standard in the higher level trims, said the press release.
Slight modifications have been made to the vehicle's exterior, including redesigns on the taillights and front fascia, but nearly everything else remains the same.
"Though small, the two exterior changes help the Sorento to stand out even more which consumers are sure to appreciate," the press release said.
The 2014 Kia Sorento is currently available from Briggs Kia in Topeka, Kansas.
