A man hijacked a school bus with 11 elementary students aboard in central Arkansas earlier today, Oct. 17, taking the students and their driver on a 10-mile drive that was stopped by local police officers.

Nicholas John Miller, 22, was arrested after the incident, which started in Jacksonville, and ended in nearby Cabot, said Jacksonville police Capt. Kenny Boyd according to CNN.

The 11 students from Pinewood Elementary School in Jacksonville and the bus driver were not injured.

The ordeal started when Miller demanded a car from an unidentified woman in Jacksonville, according to Boyd. She "did not have one to give" however.

When the Pinewood bus stopped nearby, Miller walked over and boarded it, took out his knife, and demanded to take over the driver's seat, according to a police news release.

The woman called the police as soon as the bus took off, and eventually found the bus as it headed towards Cabot.

A video recorded by a local 17-year-old on a cell phone was released by CNN. It shows the bus driving on a two-lane road while being chased by 10 police vehicles with their lights on.

"We were able to get the bus stopped. The suspect was taken into custody, and nobody was injured," Boyd said, according to CNN.

The bus was stopped 20 minutes after the hijacking, according to Boyd.

Miller was being charged with a felony count of vehicle piracy, 12 felony counts of kidnapping, and two felony counts of aggravated assault, Jacksonville police spokeswoman April Kiser said.
