Rebecca Sedwick: 2 Girls Arrested In Florida after Bullying Classmate Until She Committed Suicide; One Mocked Dead Girl in Online Post

Two girls ages 14 and 12 were arrested in Florida on Tuesday for allegedly bullying a former classmate until she killed herself.

Rebecca Sedwick, 12, climbed a tower at an abandoned concrete plant last month and hurled herself to her death, the Associated Press reported.

Police have been investigating the death and made the arrest after the 14-year-old wrote a Facebook post on Saturday saying that she had bullied Rebecca but did not care, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told the AP.

"Yes IK I bullied REBECCA nd she killed her self but IDGAF," the Facebook post read, according to CNN affiliate WFTV. Judd said the initials meant "I don't give a (expletive)."

Judd said the 14-year-old girl's family claimed her account had been compromised, but he said investigators don't believe that to be true, CNN reported.

"We decided that we can't leave her out there," Judd said. "Who else is she going to torment, who else is she going to harass?"

The sheriff told the AP that he was upset the girls who were arrested still had access to social networks, even after Sedwick's suicide.

"If we can find any charges we can bring against their parents, we will," Judd said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate; they believe that as many as 15 girls may have bullied Sedwick. The 14-year-old girl allegedly threatened to beat up Sedwick while they were sixth-graders at Crystal Lake Middle School, telling her "to drink bleach and die" and saying she should kill herself, Judd said.

The older girl convinced the younger girl to bully Sedwick, and they both repeatedly intimidated her and called her names. Once, the younger girl even beat Sedwick up, authorities said.

Sedwick was homeschooled for part of last school year and went to a new school in the fall, but the bullying continued online.

The bullying began after the 14-year-old girl started dating a boy Sedwick had formerly dated. The older girl didn't like that and "began to harass and ultimately torment Rebecca," Judd said.

The younger girl was Sedwick's former best friend, but the sheriff said the older girl turned her and others against Sedwick, out of fear they would be bullied, too.

The girls were arrested Monday night and released to their parents' custody. They remain on home detention. Both girls have been charged as juveniles with third-degree felony aggravated stalking.

Judd said the 14-year-old was "very cold, had no emotion at all upon her arrest."
