Former presidential candidate Ron Paul is auctioning off his 1979 Chevrolet Chevette to benefit his Foundation for Rational Economics and Education (FREE).

The largest tax-deductible pledge to the nonprofit organization by Oct. 15, 2013 will win the lime-green vehicle.

Proceeds will go to the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, whose mission is to promote "'public advocacy for a peaceful foreign policy and the protection of civil liberties at home.'"

Paul took the vehicle with him during his first term in Congress, according to the institute's website.

The winner of the vehicle will also get to enjoy a turnover ceremony at the FREE office in Texas, which will include a photo op and presentation of the car's original Congressional license plate by Paul.

The Chevette has just 69,000 miles on the odometer.

Paul also used the vehicle to drive his youngest daughter to college, but it has spent the last decade in a garage.

He first launched a campaign for the 1988 presidental election as a Libertarian candidate, coming in third behind Massachusetts Govenor Michael Dukakis and winner George H.W Bush.

Paul also ran in the 2008 and 2012 elections, and though he lost, he used the public forum to spread his message and offer voters an alternative choice instead of the Democratic or Republican candidates.

The Chevette was introduced in 1976 and was well-known for its simplicity and value. The base price at the time was $2,899, and didn't get past $5,000 by 1987 when the last model was sold.
