The new 2014 Ford Transit Connect Taxi was unveiled over the weekend at the 2014 International Association of Transportation Regulators Conference.

The redesigned model features options like a rearview camera and Sync with MyFord Touch, according to a company press release.

Ford is so confident in its new vehicle, which will replace the Ford Crown Victoria Taxi, it's called the Transit Connect the ideal "taxi of the future."

"We're leveraging our longtime leadership and expertise in the North American taxi market to ensure Transit Connect Taxi exceeds the expectations of taxi operators and their passengers," said Tim Stoehr, commercial truck marketing manager for Ford. In a press statement. "Transit Connect Taxi has been popular in major metropolitan cities since it debuted in 2010, and it has only gotten better."

A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission is expected for the Transit Connection.

The vehicle will have more cargo space, an interior hood release, and decreased vehicle height.

Though Ford has not offered a fuel economy rating, it's expected to provide a "best-in-class highway fuel economy rating" according to Ford.

"The new Transit Connect Taxi has been designed with the for-hire transportation driver and their passengers in mind, creating a product that combines stylish looks and improved comfort with legendary Built Ford Tough quality," said Gerald Koss, fleet marketing manager for Ford in a press statement.

Pricing has also yet to be revealed by the automaker, though the Connect Taxi will arrive at dealerships by earl 2014.

The taxi can be adjusted for wheelchair use, according to Ford.
