The Tesla Model S recently earned the highest five-star rating on crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA reported that the Model S earned perfect scores in the frontal, rollover, and side crash tests.

The results can be found here on the NHTSA website.

Company CEO Elon Musk had promised the Model S would do well in crash tests, and he turned out to be a man of his word.

"We feel good about where things are and where they're headed," said Musk in a press statement this week, according to Forbes.

This has been a good week for Tesla, as the company announced shares increased 13 percent to $151.19 in trading, according to a report by Reuters.

The electric automaker also announced that it's sold 5,150 Model S vehicles in North America during the second quarter.

Tesla plans to add a Model X SUV in late 2014 according to a Twitter post by Musk, which has since been removed.

The Model S outdid all other EVs in the crash test according to Edmunds.

The 2014 Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV earned four out of five stars from the NHTSA.
