Sprint Car Driver Dies After Lincoln Speedway Crash (VIDEO)

Sprint car racing legend Kramer Williamson died this weekend as a result of injuries suffered during a crash on Aug. 4 at the Lincoln Speedway.

During the race, Williamson's car flipped at least twice according to USA Today. The driver was then air-lifted to the trauma center of the York Hospital where doctors tried to undergo surgery.

The crash occurred at around 8:30 p.m. during the first heat according to the Associated Press.

"URC lost the most popular driver and accomplished driver in our storied history," said John Zimmerman who co-owns the United Racing Company in a press statement.

Williamson's accomplishments include a number of 410 sprint car wins, Central Pennsylvania sprint car championships, including one at Williams Grove Speedway.

The driver won the prestigious Williams Grove National Open. In 2008, he was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and the United Racing Company Hall of Fame.

"We are so saddened by the loss of an unforgettable member of our URC Family, "Cher Zimmerman said in a press statement. "Kramer was the sweetest and funniest driver I have ever known in racing. He made racing a family affair and simply adored his wife and children. I know the national racing community will join us in remembering Kramer and sending prayers to his family at this very difficult moment."

Williamson was listed in critical condition throughout the night and on Sunday. He died around 1:15 p.m. of complications, according to the York County Coroner's Office according to the Associated Press.

Kramer is survived by his wife Sharon, son Kurt, daughter Felecia, and brother George.
