The 2014 Chevrolet Impala received the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment test.

General Motors produced the new Impala with features capable of keeping occupants safer than ever before. With improved technological features like radar, visual and audible alerts, drivers are able to identify a potential crash situation quicker than they could in previous Impala vehicles.

"Safety is a key consideration for all car buyers, and Impala sets a new benchmark for Chevrolet's flagship sedan," said Gay Kent, GM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness in a company press release. "The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is designed to provide excellent crash safety, and offers customers several safety technologies not previously available in Chevrolets."

Some of the available safety features the Impala comes with includes: Crash imminent braking, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and side blind zone alert.

A rear vision camera, hill hold/ start assist and ultrasonic rear park assist are also standard according to GM.

The Impala also comes equipped with 10 standard air bags which were placed all over the inside of the vehicle.

Standard air bags include, but are not limited to, driver and front passenger side-impact, dual-stage frontal passenger bags with passenger sensing system, and head curtain bags with rollover sensing for front and rear outboard positions.

OnStar is also standard, and through GPS and smartphone technology, it's capable of calling for help automatically if a crash occurs. The OnStar capability also includes MyLink mobile apps according to GM.
