A robot co-developed by Toyota is scheduled to have the first ever human-robot conversation in space.
Toyota debuted Kirobo, the 13-inch robot, on June 26, and claimed the "ultimate goal" is to create a place where "humans and robots coexist" according to Edmunds.
Kirobo is set to take part in the first human-robot conversation experiment at the International Space Station later this year.
"Toyota's role in the project focused on Kirobo's voice and face recognition functions, crucial elements in the conversation experiments that will take place," said Toyota in a press statement this week.
The robot was designed with a "toddler-like appearance," and is supposed to appear "sympathetic and kind" to humans.

Toyota also confirmed the robot can participate in a question-answer conversation but is not capabile of performing knowledge accumulation.
The automotive company said its goal is to create partner robots that can perform more tasks like housework to make like easier for people.
