General Motors will invest $133 million to add a third stamping press to its Wentzville Assembly and Stamping plant.

The new addition will create or retain approximately 55 jobs.

The new press will "increase the plant's capacity in stamping fenders, doors and other important components for the new pickups and full-size vans" according to a GM press release.

The company will make and equip a 114,000-square-foot stamping plant addition to help the manufacturing process run more smoothly. Construction is set to begin this July and will be fully operational by 2015.

"Our investment in a third stamping press is a win for the business, Wentzville employees and our customers," said Larry Zahner, manufacturing manager, GM North America. "Stamping parts where we assemble vehicles improves manufacturing efficiency and contributes to the high level of quality our customers deserve."

The investment adds to the previously announced $380-million investment GM revealed back in 2011 to prepare for midsize pickup production.

The Wentzville Assembly employs approximately 2,000 employees for two separate shifts. The facility is home for GM's full-size vans like the GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express.

"I want to congratulate UAW Local 2250 and the Wentzville workers for their ongoing commitment to delivering quality vehicles," said UAW Vice President Joe Ashton, who directs the union's GM Department. "This investment further demonstrates the confidence GM has in this team and its hard work in serving our customers."
