Man of Steel Release Date and Trailer: New Superman Costume Left Stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Others Feeling Speechless (VIDEO)

The cast of "Man of Steel" recently sat down with Yahoo Movies for an interview not about the film itself, but rather the iconic costume actor Henry Cavill is seen wearing for his portrayal of comic-book hero Superman.

As it turned out, each actor had a different reaction upon first seeing the iconic costume. Cavill himself was just speechless.

"It's a very special thing, it really is...I can't really find words for it," said Cavill according to Yahoo. "It was a like a physical force, you put it on and you're wearing this thing and it's got an energy to it. And people behave differently around it as well."

His director seemed to agree.

Zach Snyder, known for directorial work for "300" and "Watchmen," played an important role in the design process for the suit, which included removing Superman's red underwear to make it seem more realistic.

"I thought it was pretty epic," said Snyder according to Yahoo. "When I saw the costume for the first time I thought, 'That's going to be our legacy, putting this new costume into the ether for all time.'"

Four-time Academy-Award nominee Amy Adams, who plays Superman's love interest Lois Lane, was nervous when seeing Cavill in the costume for the first time.

"I think I just giggled. That's what I do when I'm nervous," said Adams, according to Yahoo. "He just sort of embodied Superman to me, and it takes your breath away."

Getting the suit to look just right wasn't easy for designers James Acheson and Michael Wilkinson. They admitted to Yahoo that creating the costume might make some die-hard Superman fans angry, but it was necessary for the story Snyder was trying to tell.

"Rather than the traditional explanation that the suit was made from the cloth his parents wrapped him in when he was sent off from Krypton, we establish it as a foundation, the under garment all Kryptonians wear as a protective layer," said Wilkinson according to Yahoo. "On Krypton, therefore, when we see Jor-El or the council members or the soldiers, they all have the same type of suit under various layers of robes and armor, and each bearing the glyph of his or her own family line."

Even Academy-Award winner Russell Crowe, who plays Superman's father Jor-El, was asked to get into a tightly-constricted costume, but said if "you do the work" you won't have to worry about the way millions of people will be looking at you all summer.

"There was a lot of comedy going on," Crowe said to Yahoo. "I never expected to be wearing four layers of unitard for a job. But however, I have to say it makes you feel powerful.

"Man of Steel" is in theaters nationwide on June 14.
