A man walking by a Pasco County home saw a person waving to him from the window of a car parked in the garage. Tim Weidman walked towards the car and heard someone yelling inside the vehicle.
"I can't get out of my car, can you help me," Justyn Ambrozia, 90, said to Weidman who then called police according to the Associated Press.
Ambrozia was stuck inside his car for three days after falling during a shopping trip to Publix supermarket back on April 30.
Ambrozia slipped as he was rounding a corner that day according to The Tampa Bay Times. The man was helped to his car by employees, who were unaware he suffered a broken wrist and hip.
After managing to drive home despite his condition, he backed his car into his driveway, but couldn't pull the door handle because of the "searing pain" in his wrist.
To make matters worse, Ambrozia's car battery died as soon as he pulled in, meaning he couldn't honk the horn to get someone's attention. He was able to use the remote to open and shut the garage, hoping a neighbor would see. No one came over however, including a postal worker who walked right by his garage.
Ambrozia is still recovering in the Medical Center of Trinity according to the Associated Press. He related the experience to his time in the army.
Ambrozia was drafted after the Pearl Harbor attacks and was a buck sergeant in the 30th Division of the 119th Infantry. The last time he was stranded was when he and his troops were lost in Paris for six hours during World War II.
He mentioned that the experience in Paris prepared him for what happened last month. He ate the food he purchased at the supermarket, but didn't have water until being freed from his car.
"I can't complain," Ambrozia said to the Tampa Bay Times. "When something like this happens, it happens."
Publix spokesman Brian West said Publix was investigating the incident and had contacted Ambrozia.
