A homeless man from Bloomington, Illinois won a $50,000 scratch-off lottery this week according to NBC News.

Dennis Mahurin, also known as "Double D," has been homeless for 30 years but said his winnings won't change the way he lives his life.

The 59-year-old travels on foot, lives outside in a tent, spends most of his days looking for money and food, and claims he likes it that way.

"He's one of the sweetest people I've ever met," said Emmarie Cross according to ABC News. "I've been telling everybody, this couldn't have happened to a nicer guy."

Mahurin turned in the ticket right before Easter Sunday according to DeKalb pastor John Kass who spoke with the Chicago Tribune. The pastor was at the same gas station as "Double-D" and heard him ask the gas clerk if he won anything off of his scratch off.

The clerk checked and after she told the man he'd won $50,000 his eyes reportedly got "as big as saucers." He didn't believe the clerk at first and asked another clerk to verify the news.

This isn't the first time the man has won big from a scratch off, as he was awarded $1,000 last year and back in 2008 according to the Chicago Tribune.

Mahurin plans on purchasing a trailer to live in with his winnings, but is also going to help out his fellow homeless friends.

"With all the other homeless people around here, I've made up my mind," Mahurin said according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm gonna give them each $100."

A check should arrive in approximately four to six weeks, but since Dennis doesn't have a home address he's having it sent to a friend's house.
