Verizon Sending Out Android 7.0 Nougat Update For Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Verizon customers can now get the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have already pushed the update for their own versions of the handsets, and Verizon is the last to do so out of the four largest U.S. carriers.

According to Android Police, Verizon's official update to Android 7.0 will now let S7 and S7 Edge owners update their phones to Nougat. The carrier's rollout of the Nougat update follows the Galaxy Beta program, which allowed a handful of users to try the update on their devices.

However, Verizon dropped out of the Galaxy Beta program after only one month, and users were allowed to decide if they wanted to remain in the beta. They were also given the option to downgrade back to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It wasn't a big loss to Verizon customers because the program eventually ended after one month after the carrier dropped out.

Verizon's S7 and S7 Edge updates are very similar to the Nougat updates from other carriers. While the Verizon didn't exactly say which security patch is included in the Android 7.0 update, it is probably safe to assume that it will also include the February 1, 2017 patch that came with the updates for other U.S. carriers.

The official S7 and S7 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat updates include the same "revised and more refined UI" and the same "multi-window change," along with other various features. Do take note that Verizon has reportedly excluded that go90 app, which not many S7 and S7 Edge users are going to miss. Go90 is Verizon's "in-house video streaming service." The service was launched back in 2015, but the fact that it's not included in the Nougat update suggests that the service is "one step closer to being well and truly dead."

Verizon's changelogs for the Nougat update indicate that the features previously mentioned for Android 7.0 will be included in the carrier's version of the update, per Slash Gear. The carrier's changelogs for the update mentions the battery management utility, along with Nougat's new split screen mode. Users who own a "Verizon-branded" S7 or S7 Edge phone can now check for updates.
