U.S. safety regulators are investigating an estimated 550,000 Pontiac G6 vehicles due to a malfunction that could cause brake lights not to work.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated they have received approximately 212 consumer complaints alleging the brake lights don't work properly on vehicles released in 2005 through 2009, which is similar to a previous issue that led to a recall.
The NHTSA stated they'll only be investigating cars released from 2005 through 2008 according to Reuters.
Pontiac is a former brand of General Motors Co.
Customer complaints have indicated that brake lights on the vehicles illuminate when the brake pedal has not been pushed down or doesn't illuminate when the pedal has been pushed down according to official fillings to the NHTSA.
Consumers have complained the car's cruise control also may not engage or will disengage unintentionally as well according to Reuters.
A GM spokesman stated in an interview about the matter that the company is cooperating with NHTSA as they go through with their investigation.
In September 2008, NHTSA stated they conducted a similar investigation into allegations of brake light malfunctions on vehicles released in 2005 through 2007. The investigation resulted in a massive recall of 8,012 vehicles from 2005 through 2006.
The company has yet to indicate if the investigation will result in yet another recall of the same vehicle for the same problem.
