Jodi Arias faces the death penalty if she is convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of Travis Alexander in June 2008 according to a report by the Associated Press.

Arias' side of the story has changed throughout the course of the trial, in which prosecutors have charged her of killing Alexander by stabbing and slashing him 27 times, slitting his throat, and then finally shooting him in the head.

Arias stated this week she had no other choice but to kill Alexander after originally stating she wasn't there. First Arias blamed the murder on masked thieves, but now she's finally admitted she was the one who ended Alexander's life after he attacked her and "forced her to fight" for her own life.

Arias has mentioned on more than one occasion that she had a troubled childhood, often being abused by her parents which resulted in her accepting relationships with abusive men. She said this week that Alexander repeatedly tried to convince her to have sex, despite the fact that she was converting into the Mormon faith for him, which doesn't believe in sex before marriage.

One night in 2007 however, she woke up and Alexander was having sex with her, but denied that she ever told him to stop. When asked why she didn't, she claimed that it wasn't until a few minutes into it that she felt like she had gone against her beliefs, but felt responsible for leading him on.

"I felt like I was partially responsible because I went to sleep next to him. I was wearing a T-shirt, cute shorts," Arias said according to the Associated Press.

Julie Haslem, a friend of Alexander, stated in a testimony that the accusations that Alexander was abusive are false.

"It's bad enough that she took his life. Now she's trying to take his reputation, too," Haslem said outside court according to the Associated Press.

Authorities have confirmed that Alexander was shot in the head with a .25 caliber gun, the same caliber Arias' grandparents reported stolen from their home in North Carolina a week earlier according to Yahoo.
