Police officials have confirmed that five people have been killed in a head-on collision according to the Associated Press.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright stated a two-vehicle crash occurred at around 6"45 p.m. on Feb. 8 near LaGrange, which is around 45 miles north of Columbus according to the report.
Two other people have reported injuries according to Wright. One person had to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center and the other was brought to a hospital in Columbus.
No word has been released on the extent of their injures, and names haven't been release as well.
The incident that occurred is reminiscent of the one that took place in Georgia back in 2010 according to KSL.com. A driver of a Honda Accord tried to pass another car on Route 39 in a no-passing zone, when the vehicle was hit.
Two groups of people had been driving westbound on the highway near South Fork Canyon at around 8 a.m. when the crash occurred. The Accord smashed into a Ford F-350 and killed all five passangers in the car, who were not wearing safety belts according to the report. All five were under 22-years-old.
"They were all good kids, all of them," said Tracy Martin, a mother of one of the people that died in the crash to KSL.com. "I knew all of them. It's just tragic to all these families."
