‘Resident Evil 7’ Now Toned Down With Less Blood And Gore In Japan

Despite its storied reputation as a horror video game franchise, the gruesome details of "Resident Evil 7" may have been too much for some people to handle. Because of this, the Japanese version of the game was toned down to a rather egregious level.

The changes were pointed out by Censored Gaming, which uploaded a video differentiating the original version to the toned-down one. The video was posted on YouTube and, as of this writing, has already received more than 138,000 views. It has also solicited different kinds of comments with some supporting the toned-down version, while others questioning that same decision.

One particular toned-down scene involves probably one of the scariest scenes in the game. In the original version, the player is tasked to interact with a disfigured head, according to Kotaku. However, on the Japanese version, instead of dealing with the actual head, players will just deal with a photo of the person.

Another scene involves pulling out a key on a dead person's stomach. This scene is easily the game's grossest moment. In the Japanese version of "Resident Evil 7," the key just sits near the corpse and bypasses the whole ordeal of pulling out the key out of a dead person's stomach. There are also hints that the Japanese version of "Resident Evil 7" follows a different plot point.

Censored Gaming only provided a handful of changes found on the Japanese version of "Resident Evil 7." No one has yet to confirm or point out all of the changes that were made.

The Japanese version of "Resident Evil 7" has received a Z rating from Computer Entertainment Rating Organization. According to Engadget, this rating is roughly equal to ESRB's "A" adults-only rating. It is still unknown whether the original version of "Resident Evil 7" will be released in Japan for the more hardcore fans.
