The iconic Batmobile from the original television show "Batman" sold for $4.62 million at a Barrett-Jackson car auction this weekend. The final price includes a 10 percent sales commission.
The auction was held in Scottsdale, Arizona according to the Associated Press.
The vehicle's customizer George Barris reportedly first purchased a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept model for just $1. In a matter of 15 days with a budget of $15,000, he turned the Lincoln into one of the most iconic vehicles in television history.

"I saw the script and it said, 'Bang,' 'Pow,' 'Boom,' " Barris, now 87, said in an interview before the auction with the Los Angeles Times." That's exactly what I wanted the car to do. I wanted it to be as big a character as the actors."
Barris may not be a household name, but if it wasn't for him some of the most popular television shows and movies would have been completely different. Barris, who goes by the self-given nickname "King of the Kustomizers" has worked with vehicles like "The A-Team" van, the "Back to the Future" DeLorean, and the "Knight Rider" KITT Trans Am.
The Batmobile was used on the television show from 1966 through 1968. Different models were made based on the original, and at least six fiberglass replicas were produced for stunt work for the show and promotional events.
A similar model was sold in 2007 for $233,000 according to Yahoo.
The 500-horsepower vehicle came with a fake jet exhaust, a Batphone, and two parachutes that actually work according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The vehicle also comes with a bulletproof Plexiglas bubble windshield and a Bat-O-Meter, which is used to identify "the location of the bad guys," and fake oil squirter that Barris made inspired by lawn sprinkler heads according to the Los Angeles Times.
The car was used in the show by actor Adam West who starred as Batman and by Burt Ward, Batman's sidekick Robin.
