iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Update: Unlock For iPhone 5 Exists, Release Date Unknown, Planetbeing Advises Users To Remain Patient

If you own an iPhone 5 and you've patiently waited to unlock your phone, you may finally be in luck. In a post on Reddit, respected hacker Planetbeing stated that he has an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak running on his own iPhone device.

"The reasons it's not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there's no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break," Planetbeing said on Reddit.

This has to be considered great news for those who have had to deal with three months of disappointment, lies, and false promises by other hackers. Many people have fallen for fake jailbreak websites that charge a fee without providing any software to download. Others have fallen victim to the false hope of new users like Dream JB who turn out to be nothing but frauds messing with desperate people.

Most hackers who have had success in the past have had a hard time unlocking the iPhone 5 because of the tighter security system set by Apple before the phone was released. Only the Chronic Dev team has been able to prove any success when they achieved a partial jailbreak in November.

Since then every single website that has claimed to have an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone has been proven to be fake. Some fake sites even charge hundreds of dollars knowing that people must be desperate at this point to free their phones.

Planetbeing took to Reddit to address a number of different tweets the user has been getting regarding the iPhone 5 jailbreak. If the user is telling the truth and a jailbreak is close to being release, then "the doom and gloom" people have been experiencing may come to an end sooner than expected.

"Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs, there's gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated," said Planetbeing on Reddit. "This is not stuff I want to say over Twitter with 140 characters because I'm afraid of starting some sort of riot, but I like the smaller /r/jailbreak community more."
