2013 Cadillac ATS Review: PAL Technology Designed To Meet Driver Needs

The new Cadillac ATS sport is set to be released with a performance-oriented component that will reportedly improve acceleration control and handling while driving on any type of road.

Performance Algorithm Liftfoot, also known as PAL, is able to detect when a driver needs more performance assistance when taking a curve for example. The vehicle will automatically drop the transmission to a lower gear to increase acceleration according to a General Motors press release.

GM partnered the PAL system with a six-speed automatic transmission, which GM engineers have customized for quick-shift timing.

"The ATS is built to deliver inspired driving dynamics when the driver desires it," said Adam Dean, Cadillac ATS ride and handling engineer in the press release. "When PAL is engaged, the driver will notice the ATS kick into a higher RPM."

When ATS drivers chose the "Sport" suspension option, the vehicle's transmission computer "commands downshifts" to make sure the right gear is ready just in case according to GM. Lower gear options allow drivers to break into and maintain control through any type of turn while still being able to accelerate out of it.

The customized transmission is also able to reach faster shift times, which was improved to enhance the vehicle's RPM engine when shifting through a curve.

Engineers worked hard to release a vehicle with an improved PAL system and other features to make driving easier on roads and turns.  The vehicle can be purchased with a 3.6-liter V6 powerplant engine that can achieve 321 horsepower or a 2.0-liter turbo option.
