Over 16 people were killed and at least 30 have been injured due to a car bomb explosion that occurred in Qatana, a town near Damascus, Syria according to Reuters.
Seven children and two women were among the victims that took place near an Army housing complex the report stated. Extra security has now been placed in the town to help prevent a copy cat bomber according to the report.
"An embassy employee was injured, and the building was damaged," said Egyptian diplomat Alaa Abdel Aziz according Egypt's MENA news agency.
Three explosive devices went off, including one in the parked car that also damaged a nearby Egyptian Embassy building.
Fighting has been going on among the Damascus suburbs between security forces and rebels who want President Bashar al-Assad to step down. They want Assad's reign to end due to accusations of using "scud missiles" and dropping bombs in overpopulated locations.
The conflict has been going on now for almost two years and has claimed at least 40,000 lives according to the MENA news agency.
Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar and other rank officials were able to leave the building unharmed according to the Associated Press.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has stated that Assad's control has decreased lately, and it may not be long before protesters finally get their way. Assad's family has ruled the Middle East country for close to three decades according to a report by ITAR-TASS news.
