Nissan Motors said this week that they will be extending its hybrid vehicle line-up with at least 15 new vehicles no later than 2017 according to a report by Reuters.

Japan's second largest auto manufacturer is looking for new ways to draw customers in and they feel offering more hybrid vehicles could get the job done. The goal won't come without some struggles at first however, as they are having a hard time selling their electric cars in the U.S.
If the company is able to win more U.S. car owners over with hybrid and EV models, they may be able to offset the decline in sales in locations like China where company's like Honda Motors and Toyota Motors reign supreme.
Nissan also revealed plans to release an electric version of the Infiniti luxury series by 2014, and a fourth EV model is also expected to launch no later than 2016 according to the report.
In November Nissan announced they would be cutting its full-year net profit prediction of over 20 percent after car sales in China down spiraled due to anti-Japanese protests over a territory dispute.

The company isn't only suffering in China however, as sales for the newest Leaf model has been less than stellar in the U.S. during 2012. The vehicle, which was introduced in the U.S. in 2010, has had quite a number of different complaints since being released such as issues with the battery not lasting long enough, leaving drivers stranded while on a trip somewhere.
