Now through Jan. 2, 2013, Lexus will be running their "Check In for Charity" social media event to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Through the event, Lexus urges people to check in to places like restaurants, concerts and other locations during the holidays using by using the "Check In for Charity" app through Facebook and Foursquare.

Check-ins at any Lexus dealership will double the user's donation tally for the entire day according to a press release issued by the company.

"The holidays are a busy and social time of year," said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing in the press release. "As we all get out there to shop, dine and entertain family, we also want to create an opportunity for people to easily give back to a great cause. So remember, while you're out looking for the perfect gift or seeing the newest Hollywood blockbuster, connect with our app, check in and help donate to Boys & Girls Clubs of America."

The app also features a leaderboard display which shows the most active users checking in, and can be sorted by category, city, or location. The map offers people a chance to see where they have checked-in and their donation total, while comparing it to their friends on Facebook and against others around the country.

The campaign is a part of the Lexus December to Remember Sales event that started on Dec. 1 in an effort to remind everyone that "now is the perfect time to get out and live life" according to the press release.

"Charitable giving allows us to create meaningful programs that meet the needs of the youth we serve, especially those most in need. We're honored that Lexus has chosen to affiliate its 'Check In for Charity' program with our organization," said Christina Alford, vice president, national corporate partnerships for Boys & Girls Clubs of America in the press release. "Thank you in advance to Lexus' online community for making Boys & Girls Clubs of America a part of your holiday season."
